FROM THE EAST
March 2010
My Brothers;
The first meeting in February was cancelled because of the snowstorm. This was to have been a ladies night with a Valentine’s Day theme. Hopefully as we move toward spring we can plan another similar evening to include our ladies.
On Februray 22nd, at the School of Instruction, which this year, was the annual Grand Lecturer’s Convention, our Lodge was one of three Lodges in the District that qualified for the Potts Award. For those of you who are not familiar with this Grand Lodge Award, in order for a Lodge to qualify, all Lodge Officers, from the Master to the Jr. Master of Ceremony must be in attendance at the Grand Lecturer’s Convention. We were fortunate to have those seven Officers present and an additional nine other Officers and sideliners for a total of sixteen present, a great showing for the Lodge. Thanks to the dedication of these Officers and sideliners, Our Lodge will be presented with the Potts Award at Grand Lodge Session in May.
The second meeting of the month, on February 24th, was the first of two consecutive Third Degrees. On that evening, we had the privilege of Raising five of our Fellowcrafts to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. We will Raise Two more Brothers on March 10th with the assistance of the Spartan Fellowcraft Team who will portray the drama in full costume. Our Officers did an excellent job with the ritual of the Degree, starting with our Sr. Deacon, Bro. Micheal Geller who turned in another great performance, making us all proud.
A special thank you to R∴W∴ Charles Catapano, our District Deputy Grand Master, for again gracing our lodge and assisting us in the degree by conducting one of the brothers being raised. A big thank you to Bro. Jay Alweis who sat in as Tiler for the evening, to Bro. Andrew Lupo who presented the Working Tools, Bro. Al Vargas, Bro. Josh Sundquist and W∴ Peter Lupo who portrayed the three ruffians and to those other brothers who were conductors and assisted in the Degree.
I would also like to thank Wˆ Evan Griffiths who came down from Connecticut so that he could take part in the raising of Bro. Richard A. Rattan. He was one of the brothers from Connecticut who were instrumental in introducing Bro. Rich to Masonry and then proposed him to our lodge for membership.
The March 24th meeting will be a business meeting and a presentation of the Walk About The Lodge Program for our newly raised brothers. As most of you should know by now, the real purpose of a Masonic Lodge is to turn men into Masons and, as we move into April, that is just what we will be doing. Our Trestle Board is constantly growing, and at the present time we will have at least five (5) and possibly seven (7) candidates for our next First Degree.
My Brothers, we are seeing the rebirth of our Fraternity. Come down to the Lodge and help make a difference. Meet and talk to our newly raised brothers. Pass on your knowledge. Greet those brothers that you have not seen for some time. The number of the lodge, #1126, F. & A.M., is constant, but everything else has changed. Become part of that change.
Jay
